About Our Club
The Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead has a rich a storied history, shaped by a deep commitment to community service. The Club was chartered in 1949, making it the oldest Rotary Club in the San Bernardino Mountains. Our mission is to serve humanity and our members’ dedication only strengthens this purpose.
It is worthwhile to look back at the beginnings of Rotary International to truly understand the roots of the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead and see how today’s Club fits in with that history. Rotary was founded in 1905 in Chicago, Illinois by a man named Paul Harris. It started as a men’s business networking group and evolved into the world’s largest service club. In 1987, the U.S. Supreme Court required Rotary International to admit women into Rotary. Thereafter, the Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead admitted its first woman, Dr. Aylene Popka, into the club on March 1, 1988. Aylene is still an active member to this day!
Rotary International celebrates its 120 year anniversary in 2025. The birth of Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead began in 1949 when a handful of Rotarians from other local clubs (down the mountain) decided to create a local area Rotary Club. Chartering a new club takes 20 members and when 20 members were on board, the Charter was written and the club sworn in. The club continued to grow and thrive over the years and has maintained a membership hovering around 50. Rotary Club of Lake Arrowhead is proud of its programs, energy, enthusiasm, and dedication to making the world a better place for all. Come join the fun!

Rotary International’s Vision
Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change – across the globe in our communities, and in ourselves

Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of
worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
• First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
• Second: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
• Third: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life;
• Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Rotary Avenues of Service
We channel our commitment to service at home and abroad through five Avenues of Service, which are the foundation of club activity.
• Club Service focuses on making clubs strong. A thriving club is anchored by strong relationships and an active membership development plan.
• Vocational Service calls on every Rotarian to work with integrity and contribute their expertise to the problems and needs of society.
• Community Service encourages every Rotarian to find ways to improve the quality of life for people in their communities and to serve the public interest.
• International Service exemplifies our global reach in promoting peace and understanding. We support this service avenue by sponsoring or volunteering on international projects, seeking partners abroad, and more.
• Youth Service recognizes the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs.
